The Roost: Ecogate greenBOX MASTER System Controller

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

ECOGATE®, Inc., based in North Hollywood, California, designs, manufactures and installs proprietary control systems for industrial manufacturing customers. The company’s patented technologies transform classically designed dust, fume and trim removal systems into energyefficient On-Demand systems. Average electricity savings over thousands of installations is 68% with the potential for additional savings on makeup air. The ECOGATE® System qualifies for rebates from utility companies. ECOGATE® also offers proprietary duct design services, which can reduce ducting costs by up to 33% over traditional designs. Briefly, the Ecogate system works as follows:

Ralph Futch

  • A sensor is attached to each machine that produces sawdust and needs ventilation
  • The sensor connects to a main controller
  • The controller opens/closes a servo-activated blast gate located on the exhaust pipe above the machine
  • The controller also connects to a Variable Speed Drive, which modulates the speed of the exhaust blower to provide the minimum airflow for whatever lines are running at a given time. Since energy use varies with the cube of motor speed, this creates significant savings compared to running the exhaust blower full out. The average savings is 60% to 70%. You may also save on makeup air.
