In 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is expected to finalize a regulation of upholstered furniture flammability. This would bring to head a project first initiated in 1993, making it one of the longest rulemakings in the history of the federal bureaucracy. Russ Batson will preview the likely content of the rule and the steps furniture manufacturers and suppliers will need to take to ensure compliance.
